2008 Track Champion Alan Johnson remains atop Cayuga County’s Big Block Modified Throne Weedsport, NY – April 19, 2009 - It was another exciting opener tonight at Cayuga County Fair Speedway, as Alan Johnson, the 2008 track champion, bid farewell to the 23 remaining competitors during tonight’s Big Block Modified feature.
Starting out on the pole, beside rookie Big Block Modified driver Timmy Currier, Alan Johnson appeared to sail away with the checkered flag until Ryan Phelps seated in the 99 car put pedal to the metal slicing away at Johnson’s almost three second lead over the field with less than ten laps to go. It seemed as though the second generation driver was in line to spoil Johnson’s victory coming within 1.4 seconds of the leader with just two laps to go headed into heavy traffic; but it was the lone “Bottom Feeder” Johnson that showed his racing stripes, holding onto the feature win. Top Five: Alan Johnson, Ryan Phelps, Jimmy Phelps, Steve Paine, and Tim Currier. Dominance continued into the Sportsman Modified feature as local hero, Todd Towne took advantage of the pole position cruising into victory lane, also claiming the fastest lap time of 17.94 seconds. With the help of some late night garage work from fellow competitor and Top 10 finisher Beth Schneider, Town was able to give his hometown fans a show worth watching!! Top Five: Todd Town, Dave Marcuccilli, Mark Osmstead Jr., Tom Juhl, and Jordan Bennett. From the seventh starting position to claiming the checkered flag, Steve Crouse fought his way thru some tough competition passing the likes of Mike Welch, Andy Fisk, and Nate Peckham on his climb to the top. Pole sitter, Wayne Ellison maintained control of the field for the majority of the race up until a last lap spin-out in turn one, gave Crouse an opportunity to claim victory. Top Five: Steve Crouse, Mike Welch, Steve Woodworth, Andy Fisk, and Chris Fisher. When it came time for the BattleKarz to take center stage, sixteen men lined up for the start of the feature. It would come down to family ties in the waning laps as Bill Werner would beat out both Carl Werner and Dave Nageldinger, despite Nageldinger’s last ditch efforts coming out of turn 2 with less than five laps to go. Top Five: Bill Werner, Dave Nageldinger, Carl Werner, Nick Werner, and Bruce Unger.Stayed tuned next week as we continue to give out millions of thrills, chills, smiles and family fun as we present “Back to the Track Night”. Every general admission will receive a pre-race pit pass to enjoy! Results:Big Block Modified – (1) Alan Johnson, 14jr (2) Ryan Phelps, 99 (3) Jimmy Phelps, 99j (4) Steve Paine, 7x (5) Timmy Currier, 10 (6) Matt Sheppard, 9s (7) Mike Storms, 4 (8) Justin Haers, 3 (9) Tom Sears, 62s (10) Jeff Brownell Jr, 29 (11) Phil Vigneri, 44v (12) Billy Dunn, 49 (13) Frankie Caprara, FX1 (14) Larry Wight, 99L (15) Mike Mahaney, 33 (16) Chad Phelps, X (17) Chad Homan, 91 (18) Dan Vauter, 85 (19) Jason Potter, 5 (20) Eric Fisher, 37c (21) Derrick Podsialdo, 21 (22) Rob Bellinger, 8R (23) James Friesen, 52 (24) Tony SteinerSportsman - (1) Todd Town, 17t (2) Dave Marcucilli, M1 (3) Mark Osmstead Jr 9m (4) Tom Juhl, 17D (5) Jordan Bennett, 06J (6) Alan Fink, 28 (7) Matt Billings, 74 (8) Bill Clark, 99 (9) Beth Scheider, 57s (10) John Pietrowicz, 85 (11) John Juhl II, 07 (12) Marcus Dinkins, 17 (13) Justin Wright, 19w (14) Kevin Ridley, 20x (15) Steve Gray, 29g (16) Ricky Newton, 11n (17) Ben Wheeler, 11 (18) Rob Richmond Jr., 93 (19) Tim Sears Jr., 83x (20) Earl Rudy, 16 (21) Kyle LaVare, 88 (22) Jason Occhino, 91 (23) Jeremy Pitcher, 14 (24) Robert Humphreys, 85H (25) Jim Spano, JV1Street Stock - (1) Steve Crouse, 02 (2) Mike Welch, 00 (3) Steve Woodworth, 2 (4) Andy Fisk, 33 (5) Chris Fisher, 37 (6) Nick Rizzo, 115 (7) Dan Hoffman Sr, 71 (8) Mike Vaughn, 64 (9) Dan Hoffman Jr, 17 (10) Wayne, Ellison, 18 (11) Dave Marrise, 8x (12) Bill Thomas, 88x (13) Nate Peckham, 90 BattleKarz – (1) Bill Werner, 63 (2) Dave Nageldinger, 11x (3) Carl Werner, 24 (4) Nick Werner, 47w (5) Bruce Unger, 711 (6) Demcy, 22L (7) Barb Amadon, 13 (8) Jeremy Werner, 1 (9) James Weroy, 67 (10) M.
