The X-man Claims Victory at Cayuga County Fair Speedway Weedsport, N.Y. - Coming off of a two week hiatus, Cayuga County Fair Speedway opened its doors to record breaking numbers, as 115 cars vied for the checkered flag during Sunday night’s race program; however, the X-man, Chad Phelps, would take full advantage off the outside groove, rocketing past the field to take the checkered flag in the Big Block Gater Racing News 35.
Big Block Modifieds With less than ten laps to go, “the X-man” Chad Phelps found his sweet spot around Chad Homan aboard the #91 modified to take the lead and ultimately the checkered flag in the Gater Racing News 35. At the drop of the green, Rob Bellinger would take the lead from pole sitter Paul Habeck but the action would only heat up from there as fans witnessed full-throttle racing from start to finish.By lap 3, it was evident that Phelps was looking to go all the way advancing up the ranks thanks to the outside groove passing the likes of Derrick Podsiadlo, Jason Potter, and Paul Habeck. As the laps continued to fall some of the heavy hitters began to make their moves as Jeff Brownell Jr, Frankie Caprara, and Justin Haers found themselves battling for elite eight positions. Track champion Alan Johnson got into the mix midway thru the feature coming from a 16th starting spot to now battle for the sixth position. Nevertheless, it was Phelps that had the final say on lap 27 taking Homan from the lead position to secure the feature win. Johnson would have a brilliant run by night’s end, coming out second best behind Phelps at the checkered. Top Five: Chad Phelps, Alan Johnson, Jeff Brownell Jr, Chad Homan, and Justin Haers Sportsman ModifiedsPole sitter AJ Kingsley, aboard the #3k car led the 24 car field into green flag racing during tonight’s 25 lap feature here at Cayuga County Fair Speedway. Kingsley set up shop in the number one spot until young gun, Justin Wright found an opening worth taking during a restart on lap 7. Action would quickly come to a halt two laps later after Eric Giguere took a pounding into the inside retaining wall after trying to steer around the #99 of Bill Clark seconds after he ricocheted off the outside retaining wall. Thankfully, Giguere was able to climb out of his car as the crowd erupted in cheers after witnessing one horrific trip into the backstretch wall. When action resumed, Wright seemed to have too much under the hood for the remaining men could attest to as he held off the advances of Steve Gray aboard the #29g to take the checkered flag. Top Five: Justin Wright, Steve Gray, Robert Humphreys, AJ Kingsley, and Tom Juhl Street Stocks Nate Peckham was quick off the draw when the green flag fell, taking the lead spot from pole sitter Dan Hoffman Jr in the Street Stock 20 lap feature. With five laps in the books, Wayne Ellison advanced from a sixth place starting spot to second as he and Peckham began separating themselves from the remaining field. By lap 8, Ellison captured the lead from Peckham but a caution thrown on lap 14 by the #64 of Mike Vaughn sent the boys back to the line for the restart. Two laps later, Peckham would retake the lead from Ellison and ultimately the checkered flag.
